Who is
My Magical Story Journal for?
My Magical Story Journal is a treasure chest
for teachers, parents, relatives, friends and carers.
As a mother of hypersensitive children and someone passionate
about facilitating learning, thinking skills, philosophy and
emotional literacy for children, I wanted a resource like this
for my children. In this fast-paced world, we all need ways
to SLOW down and connect with our kids, to ease their fears
and phobias, and to help them in any way possible to survive
the increasing demands of modern life.
Modern languages have not completely lost their magical properties;
they still retain the power to move our inner world of soul.
Languages suggest a particular way of seeing the world. If it
directs the attention and guides the feelings of adults, imagine
how it is for children beginning their fabulous journey through
the marvel of language. Who has not been spellbound by a particular
story or poem?
What makes it a great product
There is nothing else like My Magical Story Journal.
It builds bridges:
• between educational philosophies (including Steiner/Waldorf
education),
• between approaches (right and left brain hemisphere
dominance). For example, the left hemisphere is active during
study, reading or writing and mathematics. The right hemisphere
is active in imagination, imagery and intuitive ideas, and
• between auditory and visual literacy
The five themes in the book are interconnected. The “text
prompts” beside each illustration are in an easy-to-read
style using the child as narrator or ‘voice’ of
each visual. This deepens their connection with the material,
and increases motivation.
Designed for children in their first years of school, the book
allows a child to have their own special places for thinking.
Children explore their ideas that stimulate them and develop
tools for shaping the direction of those ideas.
Doodles, scribbles, notes and first drafts act as a
catalyst for new writing. This book draws out the whimsy, the
‘stream of consciousness’ within us all.

Dear Melinda,
Thank-you for the lovely "story journal" which arrived
today. This one is a present for my daughter's birthday next
month - but I see that I may have stumbled across a great resource
to use in my therapy sessions with children with language delays
and difficulties!
With thanks,

This beautiful gem of a book has been created to stimulate
imaginations of children and adults alike. It is the work of
several gifted women and as a former English teacher with a
huge passion for creative writing I am so excited about this
book’s birth. I met the author Melinda Lewis on my last
trip to Sydney and she is a dedicated mother and educator and
I hope this will be the first of many creative adventures by
this lovely lady.
