Some Sample
Stories
My Magical Story Journal
is special as it assists children to explore their own imagination,
and to express ideas. When working in small groups, either at
school or with siblings at home, this book helps foster cooperative
behaviour.

My Magical Story Journal
encourages children to work together within a community of enquiry
– listening, thinking, questioning, reflecting and respecting
each other’s views.

This resource is invaluable to anyone interested in contributing
to their child’s intelligence, including their emotional
intelligence. Also highly useful for therapists working with
children and those home schooling parents.
Therapeutic use of Story Telling
with Children
This links to a project at Macquarie University for children
with preschool fears and phobias. I would like to add the following
sample story lines I created for each of my children.
For a fear of swimming and water on a child’s head I
created The Dashing Dolphin who Didn’t Dunk. This story
showed how a lovely young dolphin was missing out on all the
fun splashing and dunking with the other dolphins. Eventually
he became angry and upset as he did not really want to miss
out. Something was holding him back – he didn’t
understand it but it was his fear….”If only I was
a feather who could float on top of the water!”
For a fear of the dark I created The Lit Lighthouse using the
imagery of the tallest, strongest lighthouse (shaped in the
letter L) that sent its light into the corners of every child’s
bedroom in every land all over mother earth. There was not one
room, no matter how dim or dark that this light would not reach.
It was so strong….all you had to do was close your eyes
so that you could see it….
For a child being fearful and demanding of parents/cares when
ill I created a story about The Busy Spider and her Golden Web.
This story used the imagery of a mother spider who spun the
strongest and toughest web for her little ones. When one was
ill, mummy spider worked extra hard to ensure that the little
one had plenty of medicines, water and rest. When challenged,
she would rebuild her web always placing the sick one close
by. When the strong winds blew and broke her web, she immediately
spun more gold to make the web even stronger than before. The
little one need not worry, she was in the best care. All she
need do was relax, be nourished, have courage and get well again….
For a general boost of courage, valor and bravery I created
Chocolate Courage Cake. All anyone need do was have a slice
of chocolate courage cake

"Melinda Lewis, a bright new talent from Sydney's
west, has produced a very real tour de force, for 3 - 8 year
olds. This Journal is a thing of beauty and creativity. Thoroughly
recommended. www.immortalbooks.com.au
